Imagine you are working in a chemical Industry since long and there are new chemical engineers have joined in your plant. They are naturally uncertain in new work environment. As a mentor and trainer you will provide the technical training material and will explain him the safety rules to them. Since you are working since long in this Industry you have another responsibility also, so naturally you will not give your 100% time to the new jonnies. But since you are the mentor as well as trainer of these new joiners’ you will arrange all the resources needed to educate them. You will assign them company related unit operation project for optimization or else whatever problem you have in your unit operation is to be resolved.
Organization has provided laptop/desktop, mobile phone to these new technical joiners as per policy, they can use these devices for their assignable projects in office only. The intention of providing these devices is for accessing the company’s product related literatures like new technology, refer similar type of unit operations knowhow, procedures, design conditions, patents etc. which will help to boost up the productivity as well as help to optimization of process.
Since their initial overview training is completed they will get busy in their project, so the mentor will not give full attention on their performance after assigning the project. But as day passes they get habitual to sit in AC and work with PC.
After projecting the nature of job in chemical Industry some of the chemical engineers get disappointed as this is not their dream job as they might have think about white colour job. They don’t want to work at shop floor.  And they try to compare with others among themselves and use social media to chat on phone. WhatsApp, internet. Some of these engineers thinking for higher studies and hence they will concentrate on future planning instead of current job related study. Here their performance gets detoriated. Looking at these engineers others are also following the same thing and they also get habituate to chat on social media.

In chemical Industry the field observations are more important but due to habit of sitting in AC and working with PC and always use of mobile leads to poor observations and this may affect the company performance. The other shop floor employees will not co-operate these new young generation joiners due to difference in facility of accessing the mobile phone as they don’t have.  Imagine if such type of employees sitting on panel and if he misses a crucial alarm there is a probability of process safety incident and one process safety incident will create huge loss to company.
Then who will responsible for this incident? Mentor/Management/New Joiner?
Since mentor is assigned additional responsibility and he may be busy in his own prime job he is not responsible. As if he focus on this responsibility other job will get affected.
Management is thinking about the productivity, efficiency mobility and forecasting improvement in process by empowering the new generation.
Since new Joiner is not fully responsive the process he is also not responsible, though he might have validated on paper.
So in conclusion the main reason is the permission to use mobile phone and practice of sitting in AC and working with PC.
