  • According to the World Health Organization, around 1.6 million people worldwide died due to diabetes in 2016. It is estimated that 425 million people are living with diabetes all over the world. By 2045, projections show this number rising to some 629 million diabetics globally
  • There are estimated 72.96 million cases of diabetes in adult population of India. The prevalence in urban areas ranges between 10.9% and 14.2% and prevalence in rural India was 3.0-7.8% among population aged 20 years and above with a much higher prevalence among individuals aged over 50 years (INDIAB Study)

Every cell in human body needs energy to survive and do different functions. If we are talking about brain cells, it needs to keep simulating other brain cells and sending on signals and messages.
If it is muscle cell, it needs energy to contract they need energy to just to do basic functions of cells. And the place that they get the energy from or the primary source of energy is from glucose. Glucose is a simple sugar.
If you were taste the glucose it would taste sweet and glucose gets delivered to cells through bloodstream. When cells need energy, glucose will enter into the cell through blood stream but it is not so simple that, the glucose don’t enter by itself, it needs assistance of hormone or molecule called insulin. The cells have insulin receptors present at the surface. Also some insulin particles are also present in blood stream (Insulin is released from the pancreas) These insulin molecules/hormones takes glucose from the blood stream and binds with the receptors present at the surface of cell  and unlocks the glucose channel which leads to enters glucose into cell. Now things always won’t as intended.
Types of Diabetes.
1.      When Pancreas does not produce insulin properly, in that case there is nothing to bind with the receptors so glucose will not enter into cell from bloodstream. This is called type-1 diabetes. That means even if you have glucose (energy) but you don’t have insulin then there will not be opening of glucose channel at the surface of cell so glucose will enter into cell. Another case
2.      Suppose you have insulin produced by pancreas, you have glucose molecule in blood stream which is coming through our food and if the insulin receptors present at the surface of cell are not functioning properly or became desensitized to insulin. In that case also glucose will enter into the cell. This is called type-2 diabetes
How to manage Diabetes.
Type-1.Injecting insulin will help to control the blood sugar. This is a big problem as there is no insulin in blood stream but by injecting insulin externally it will attach the glucose molecule to the receptors and process the glucose present in the bloodstream.
This is mainly observed in children, this can be developed at any change. Without treatment it cannot be survived.
Type-2: Type-2 diabetes is managed by using oral medicines these medicines sensitises the insulin receptors and process the blood sugar. This can also be managed by changing the lifestyle. But in case of high severity you can manage it by injection insulin also like type-1 diabetes.
This type of diabetes is diagnosed in elderly people .Mostly above the age of 40 years. With changing life style you can sustain blood sugar and live life.
